I still haven’t finished retro-tagging my posts and I’m still forgetting to tag new posts a lot of the time, but I’m getting better.
I wasn’t sure to begin with if I should use ‘freeform’ tags, so that each post has quite a few specific tags (e.g. people’s names, band names, song names, etc), or if I should use tags like a category marker (e.g. music, film, friends, etc.), but i went with the specific tags.
I’m starting to regret that now. I just tried to add Heather Rivers’ tag cloud to my site, but there seems to be too many tags in the cloud for it to work. I’m not sure if it’s because the tag cloud extends further down than the bottom of the posts, but when I add the code my site is just blank.
As a test, I’ve tried deleting most of the code, leaving only a few tags in the cloud and it works fine, so it must be something to do with the number of tags in the cloud, or just the size of the cloud itself.
Annoying.
I might start tagging again, but just using the tags more as category markers instead.
