At first blush, the new service seems like a novelty and entirely unsustainable. It reminds me of the stickers in that mess of a directory.

I guess I think it is nice that it can be done. But I just see a bunch of loud mouths pushing content at my dash for the price of a $1. And then how much do I want to be one of those people? However, at 45, I do not represent Tumblr’s market segment. Is this a MySpacing of Tumblr?

Is as if investors in Tumblr saw the recent Facebook public offering, and becoming impatient, pulled Tumblr’s chain.

In my opinion the way for Tumblr to monetize beyond any comparison is to break tradition and create it’s own form of “Tumblarity” as a dynamic social currency akin to Bitcoin. Creating new currencies is the organic direction and fits with the core dynamic of Tumblr in my opinion.

Imagine being able to sell your Tumblarity. Or it getting you a free room at a hotel, donating it to a charity or cause, and purchasing gifts on Etsy with it?
