I wish Tumblr had an option to upload a smell - here’s one I want to remember. My mother in law who is Italian is making pasta sauce today from scratch from produce directly from the field. My father in law is a farmer and picked us some tomatoes and garlic straight from the field.
I’d like to reblog a post to add a comment or something, but I don’t want it on my public-facing tumblelog because it would be insignificant to the outside reader and/or would require too much effort to explain the full context.
So, dashboard-only reblogging? I believe there are toxic fumes in my office right now, so that’s my excuse if this is completely ridiculous.
Interesting idea. One could reblog to a private group. The top issues on my wishlist are:
1) Move the “delete post” from RIGHT NEXT to the “edit”. (UI Hell- who designed this a 19 year old?)
2) [Filter : Show everything By (insert follows)]. Let us toggle who we follow on and off PLEASE.
3) Add in-dash chat and comment threads to reblogs. That way REAL communication can take place not just random sniping and readers of the public-facing tumblelog aren’t scrolling through miles of partial conversations disguised as posts.
4) Allow people to join a tumblelog as a contributer and a way to break a group off into a full fledged tumblelog. (visualize cell fertilization and division.)
5) Create an import link in preferences that allows users to post a “Profile” link to any or all social software like Linkedin or Facebook. So when reading someones Tumblr you can find out more about them if they choose.
No poisen gas where I am. Just head spinning from poverty induced lack of good coffee.

ZOMG! Where have you been all my life!!
What happens when you follow more than 300 people? How does the dashboard know who to stop showing? Does he start from the back or the front?
Overfollowing Tumblrs like myself need to know.
I follow more than 300. Are you saying it’s documented that people will stop showing? I thought it was just me.
Hmnn. I have tumblr that follows over a thousand. But I never bothered to count the posts. But it doesn’t really seem like more than 300. Perhaps it is true.
Hi everyone!
We’re getting ready to push some major updates over the next few weeks, and we wanted to give you a heads-up on changes to our custom theme engine.
We’ve tried to make Tumblr themes as open and customizable as possible, and the things you’ve created have blown our minds. But there are still things we’ve wanted to do that haven’t been easy enough.
So next Monday we’ll be scrapping our old code for a completely overhauled template engine. We’re seriously excited about this, and we can’t wait to see what you’re able to do with it.
The most noticeable improvements:
- The new engine is scoped, so you’ll be able to nest and repeat blocks and variables.
- The engine uses a new token parser that will support special syntax for API hooks. This will let your theme call back for content, like:
{block:Posts type="photo" tagged="spotlight" count="5"} <img src="{PhotoURL width="200"}" /> {/block:Posts}We’ve been systematically testing the new engine to make sure it’s backwards compatible. You can test it yourself by adding ?beta=1 to any tumblelog URL (e.g. http://www.davidslog.com/?beta=1). If it’s working correctly, you shouldn’t see a difference.
Please let us know if you see anything funny.
(Raises eyebrow) Hmnnnn…
Tumblr Overlords I beseach thee:
Please add a check box in each post in my dashboard. Once checked, I can return to the front page of my dashboard and read or reblog posts that I have selected.
A button that turns posts off in dashboard might have the same effect, but if you were following many it might be too laborative. I would however, like to be able to turn a post off if I find it offensive.
So yes, give us both. I thank thee, and please find the chicken blood Yoohoo Appletini I have sprinkled around my print out of David Karp a worthy aroma.
